Two-Storey Family House Renovation in Alimos, 150 sq. m.
Comprehensive design study, interior design, material selection, lighting design, bespoke built-in elements, site supervision
This home renovation in Alimos involved the redesign of a 1990 two-storey family house with a total area of 150 sq. m., tailored to the needs of a young couple and their baby. The aim of the project was to create a calm, contemporary and highly functional home, where interior design would meaningfully support the family’s new day-to-day life. Rather than being treated as a simple aesthetic refresh, the project approached the house as a complete rethinking of how it is lived in. This new stage in the family’s life called for clear spatial logic, careful material choices and a quiet sense of continuity running through the entire home.

The Brief Behind the Home Renovation
The house, a two-storey family residence dating from 1990, needed to respond to new needs and a different rhythm of everyday life. The brief was to create a home that would work effortlessly for a young family, without compromising on quality, spatial clarity or the overall experience of living in it. The lower level brings together the shared areas of the house, with an open-plan kitchen, dining area and living room, along with a WC and storage spaces. The upper level contains the more private part of the home, with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The renovation aimed to bring a renewed sense of cohesion to this layout, allowing the house to feel calm, clear and comfortable in the way it supports daily life.
Interior Design and Overall Spatial Reconfiguration
Our architectural practice undertook the full design study for the project, covering interior design, material selection, lighting design, bespoke built-in elements and site supervision. The approach was based on the idea that a family home renovation requires more than a new look. It requires a meaningful reconfiguration of space around the real needs of the people who live there. The design focused on creating interiors with clear functional logic and a balanced relationship between the shared and private zones of the house. Functionality was not treated as a secondary or purely technical matter, but as a central part of the architectural experience. The result is a home shaped to support family life naturally, while maintaining a coherent design identity throughout.
Materials, Lighting and a Minimal Aesthetic
The design direction of the project was rooted in a minimal aesthetic with no strong colour accents, allowing the character of the home to emerge through material quality, clean lines and compositional balance. This is a residence that expresses quality in a quiet way, through deliberate design decisions and materials chosen for their lasting value. In the kitchen, the ceramic worktop in a Calacatta Viola finish is paired with cabinetry clad in smoke-toned oak veneer, shaping a space with a strong and clearly defined design identity. The composition balances the expressive presence of the surface with the warmth of the timber, allowing the kitchen to function not only as a practical setting for everyday life, but also as a central point of reference within the home’s shared living core. With its clean lines and carefully selected materials, the space sits naturally within the project’s overall minimal aesthetic, while retaining its own character and a distinct sense of depth. In the main bathroom on the upper floor, Travertino Light Stone was used for the countertop, vanity, walls and flooring. In the children’s bathroom, Travertino Beige Stone was selected for the countertop, walls and floor, while the vanity was finished in veneer. In this way, the two spaces remain connected through a shared visual language, while preserving their own subtle tonal identity. The lighting was designed to highlight the materials and enhance the home’s warm, calm atmosphere.
The Outcome for the Family
The renovation delivered a home shaped around the realities of contemporary family life. The 150 sq. m. two-storey house was transformed into a calm, coherent and highly functional environment, where each space supports everyday life with ease and clarity. Beyond its aesthetic upgrade, the value of the project lies in the way the house was redefined as a place to live. The design study, interior design, lighting, bespoke built-in elements and material choices worked together to create a home genuinely aligned with the needs of the people who live there.
